Marathon Recap Part 2

I've had a month now to reflect on my marathon experience. I have a couple of regrets, of course..who doesn't? But overall, I am really happy with my marathon :)

Here's the crappy part:

After going out on the town to celebrate...several hours and several margaritas later (I was not driving..my brother picked us up at our hotel)..we returned to the hotel and headed downstairs to the parking garage to get some stuff out of my van..which I had not been to since we parked it the day before. When we got off the elevaltor and I glanced in the direction of my vehicle all I could see was a bunch of shattered glass all over the ground next to my car. It took a few seconds to register what had happened (like I said..a few margaritas!), but I soon realized that my van had been broken into. They smashed the passenger window and stole my dvd player and for awhile I thought they stole the gps which by the way wasn't even mine. It belonged to my friend that was with me (Alyson).

We were smart enough to hide the gps in the console between the 2 front seats the day before. I had heard that people actually look for the little ring on the windshield (that the gps suction cup leaves). If they see that, they know you have a gps in the vehicle. The console of my van has a little tray that sits on top that you can lift out. It's like a secret little compartment. Fortunately, I put the gps down underneath the tray. There was also a plastic grocery store bag in there as well as a book - I really buried it. In fact, I hid it so well that I didn't even realize until the next day that the gps didn't actually get stolen! It was weird. When I first found that the car had been broken into, I checked everything out and I never saw the gps down inside the console. In fact, I didn't even notice right away that the dvd player actually WAS stolen.

Anyway, the hotel we were staying at was absolutely no help to me at all (Crowne Plaza). It was like pulling teeth just trying to get someone to come down and clean out the glass and tape a garbage bag over the window (nothing screams redneck like a garbage bag taped over your car window!). Actually, I did most of the cleaning myself. The police wouldn't even come..I reported it over the phone.

The next morning when we got in the car to drive home, I jokingly said, "I wonder which way is home" (since I thought the gps was stolen). I don't even know why I did this, but I popped open the console and there was the gps as plain as can be. I was so happy to see that thing! In fact, I was so happy, that I didn't really even care that my dvd player was gone.

What a crazy way to end our weekend. What was also crazy was the car ride home..2 1/2 hours with a plastic garbage bag flapping away at 70 mph (can you say redneck?). It was so loud that we couldn't even talk to each other. We tried for awhile, but we got tired of yelling and we couldn't hear each other anyway. When we would slow down or stop, our ears were ringing..you know how your ears feel after going to a really loud concert? That's how it was. I recently had that experience when I went to see Rush over the summer with my husband..they were great, but man they were loud!

Anyway, that's part 2 of my story..it's kind of funny now...here we are on our way home:
