Fresh Start

September is here. It has been a busy few weeks. We moved out of one house & into a new one (we actually moved into an old house, but new to us). Moving out & moving in are really two separate things. I would call them two separate nightmares ;-) I have a very organized & uncluttered house, but it was still terrible to move the whole thing even though the house we were moving to was just a few hundred feet away. I had been packing boxes for weeks so I thought we were in good shape for the move.

On moving day, things seemed to be going fairly well until it came time to move the basement, laundry room & workshop. That's where the junk is. Then, there's all the stuff in storage like Christmas decorations, boxes and boxes and boxes of pictures, my son's crib (I still have it even though he will be 12 this week) and other seemingly useless items that have no value other than they are sentimental for one reason or another. After 14 years of living in a house with 2 kids & various pets, you accumulate a LOT of stuff...even if you are a neat freak like me.

There's nothing like a good move to make you realize who your friends are. They were there with us until late into the night. They moved our basement, our monster couch and even the washer and dryer. There was also our basketball hoop, snowblower and even the dirty laundry. I felt bad for them. At times, I was even embarassed by the sheer amount of stuff.

It all came out of the old house and down the road to the new one. As it was getting later and later, we fell into desperation mode. We were starting to get worried that we weren't going to get everything out before the closing the following morning. We worked until 4 a.m. and, it still wasn't done! My husband and I were back up there at 6:00 the following morning for the last remaining items in the garage...and to fix the water pipe that broke when the washing machine was moved..I'm talking shut the water off and sodder the pipe..yeah, he was so happy to be doing that :)

But, eventually it was finished. This is what the place looked like when it was all over:

Yes, I believe that's a dresser drawer in the living room. This is what happens when a move goes wrong. Things get dropped anywhere...but, at least it was all under the same roof!

So, it has been over a week and we have gotten a lot done. We are digging out of the mess. I had to take a whole week off from running, but I'm back on track again. The Galloway plan calls for a 26 mile run this week and then we have a about a month until the marathon. I can't believe it's that close! I'm getting excited.

There's a lot to look forward to this fall..enjoying our new house, the marathon, soccer games, track meets, birthdays..I love it all :)
